Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and with the latest movie premiering on Netflix, the popularity of Sailor Moon doesn’t look like it is abating any time soon!

Hello, fellow cosplayers, I’m Bianca, and I’m a wig-snatching theater girl from London who likes to dabble on the fringes of cosplay. I enjoy getting my characters as accurate as possible, so I wanted to have a look at the best Sailor Moon wigs for doing just that.

From my research and wig flipping exploits, I think without a doubt that the JoneTing Sailor Moon Wig is the BEST overall for color, thickness, wig capsize, and just general character accuracy. It’s soft, easy to manage, and has a dreamy color that works for the older Sailor Moons and the newer character updates.

In this section, I will go over my top picks for the best Sailor Moon Wigs, together with a detailed review for each option.

JoneTing Sailor Moon Wig

This wig is actually amazing. It’s soft, thick, full, and luscious. It comes in both the retro bright yellow and more modern golden blonde, so whichever Sailor Moon styling you would like to go for, you have the option.

I like the length of this wig. My friend is 5” 6, she decided to use this wig for her Halloween costume and it still came to about mid-thigh for her. So the length is good, and it has that super-long effect that all the anime characters do in the series.

The other thing is that if you have long, thick hair, this wig cap WILL fit over your head, unlike some other options on this list. The cap is also adjustable, so you can get the right fit.

You can’t have everything, though. With the cap being so sturdy, it can be a little difficult to position properly on your head and will need a bit of readjusting to get it to look right.

If you are looking for 90s Sailor Moon, yellow wig realness, then this is the wig for you! It’s got that perfect bun placement, cute bangs, curls in the extended part vibe that is just SO Sailor Moon cute!

This wig is made out of High Heat resistant synthetic fiber, so if you need to tidy up your wig or restyle using heat, you can easily do it with a hairdryer or straightening iron on a low setting. No melting, running, or burning over here!

The wig cap itself is well constructed with adjustable straps for the perfect fit. The hair is lovely and soft. Just spray some hairspray on the ends to help it not tangle while you flick around all over Comic-Con!

If you want a Sailor Moon wig that is quite yellow, then this is the wig for you. Even though the pictures don’t show it as very yellow. It is.

It’s annoying that you can’t see what the wig will look like beforehand, but – trust me – it is YELLOW.

ANOGOL Sailor Moon Wig

Best for: Modern Sailor Moon

Anogol has been working with cosplayers and Comic-Con for the last 10 years, and it shows. Their coloring I would say is the best out of all of them. As a median between “highlighter yellow” and “white blonde”, this works I think for any Sailor Moon character you fancy doing.

The bun height and perfectly round shape of the buns are brilliant with this wig. The ringlets at the end of the extensions are exquisite, and I genuinely love this wig.

So if it’s sturdy, is beautifully designed, has excellent attention to detail and the color is immaculate, then why isn’t this wig my ‘Best Overall’?

The size. If you have a medium to larger head or just thick and long hair, this cap will not fit. And you will see your hairline popping out along the back if you try and force it on.

So even though I think this wig is gorgeous, with my 22-inch, 150 gram, tape-in extensions, and normal-sized head, I couldn’t wear this.

Big, sad face 🙁

Guide to Buying Sailor Moon Wigs

Here are a few things to take into consideration when looking for the perfect Sailor Moon wig.

The Shade of it All!

Sailor Moon wigs range from the yellowest egg-yolk yellow to Scandinavian blonde. They all have a place in the cosplayer’s heart, so you need to decide which style of cosplay you want to do and which Sailor Moon you want to be.

From the pastel-loving civilian wear to the previous incantation of Sailor Moon, Princess Serenity, there is a shade of wig that lends itself to the outfit. Even though the iconic odango doesn’t change from iteration to iteration, the shade certainly does.

Fixed or Unfixed?

Sailor Moon’s quintessential space buns and long ringlets are instantly recognizable in the blink of an eye. However, did you know that some wigs have these pieces unfixed, so you can adjust them individually?

I personally prefer the features fixed as I worry about things shifting throughout the event, however, if you are concerned about having more control over the placement of the features then you may prefer to go for an unfixed wig.

My Verdict

This JoneTing Sailor Moon Wig is of outstanding quality, has a beautiful color, and for synthetic hair, really is soft and touchable.

I love the attention to detail in this wig, and also the fact that the ringlets keep their shape so well at the ends.

If you are going to spend a full day running around Comic-Con in this wig, I suggest you take a little bottle of fabric conditioner along in a spray bottle. When it starts to get ratty, spray, wait 5 minutes, say, “In the name of the Moon, I’ll punish you!” and brush it out!

You’ll be living the full Sailor Moon fantasy all day in this particularly fabulous wig!
