Lace front wigs have several degrees of longevity. Usually, they last from six months to three years, depending on the quality of lace and the hair used. But a longer lifespan depends on you.
Disappointed? I hope No.
Welcome to my new post about the fantastic world of wigs. I am Rosalba, I come from a hairstylist family and I am an enthusiastic wig lover with in-depth knowledge about all the features of frontal lace wigs, especially about their duration.
In this question post, in fact, I covered just the question you surely asked before landing to this page, namely: how long do lace front wigs last?
To know the answer in detail, keep reading this post!
Average Duration of Lace Front Wigs
A lace front wig has a construction cap formed by a portion of lace placed only on the frontal part of the same cap.
You must know that every product has its own particular duration and lace front wigs don’t make any exceptions.
Types of Lace
The duration of these wigs can also depend on the quality of the frontal lace. If it tends to rip even the entire fiber of the wig gets damaged!
HD lace is the best type for making a lace front wig, and it is very flexible and undetectable. However, compared with transparent lace, HD lace may be more fragile because they are much thinner.
Other than quality of the lace, hair quality is another factor that plays a big part in determining the lifespan of lace front wigs.
How Long do Synthetic Lace Front Wigs Last
The shorter duration belongs to synthetic hair wigs. Their lifespan usually does not go over six months. According to my experience, some lace front wigs may only last for around three months.
How Long do Human Hair Lace Front Wigs Last
By contrast, the longer duration belongs to human hair wigs. The latter last until three years, with a subtle difference between remy hair and virgin hair wigs.
Go to the subsequent paragraph to discover more about this difference.
Most lace front wigs are made with remy hair and virgin hair. The type of natural hair influences the lifespan of the lace front wig.
Remy hair, indeed, comes from several donors, and it is chemically processed. Instead, virgin hair comes from one single donor and is not processed with chemicals.
Most Remy hair lace front wigs can last for up to one year, while virgin hair lace front wigs can last for up to three years.
For this feature, virgin hair lace front wigs are fairly expensive, but if you want to avoid the annoyance of changing your wig every year, consider the advantage of this type of investment.
If you don’t have the budget to buy a virgin hair frontal lace wig, you might always buy quality lace front wigs with the best value for money.
Quality is another critical factor that influences the duration of lace front wigs.
Let’s go to the paragraph below to discover valuable details about this factor.
Pro Tips: Don’t Rely on the Grading Systems
As said, quality can strongly influence the duration of your frontal lace wig.
Unfortunately, you can’t rely on the hair grading system, because it has been discovered to serve only for marketing purposes.
The grade of a wig is usually marked by a numbered letter “A”.
As explained in another post, until 2014 the 5A grade represented the best hair quality for wigs, but afterward, especially in 2015, 2016, and 2017, 7A, 8A, and 9A grades appeared everywhere in the market of wigs.
Just think that 10A, considered the best quality grade for virgin hair wigs, has been replaced with the 12A grade in 2021, but, in reality, a quality wig can also have a lower grade.
It all depends on the company that produces the wig. 5A wigs of a certain company resulted to be better than 10A produced by another company.
Hence, to verify the quality of a lace front wig, it is better to listen to the opinions and reviews of customers.
We also love to check whether a hair vendor can provide very long virgin human hair wigs. The longer the human hair, the more demanding the hair quality. It is also more difficult and expensive for hair vendors to source long human hair. Therefore, a hair vendor that can supply human hair wigs with over 30 inches is usually pretty good.
Extending the Lifespan of Lace Front Wigs
As said at the beginning of this post, the duration of your lace front wig depends on you, above all. With proper care and maintenance, you can extend the lifespan of your wigs.
Synthetic hair wigs, require less washing than human hair wigs. You have only to keep them away from heat and sun rays. (Let’s ignore that fact that synthetic hair wigs are less natural than human hair wigs for now.)
Human hair wigs must be washed when they appear dull or discolored, usually once every six to eight wears. Make sure to use specific shampoos and conditioners when you wash the wigs.
Furthermore, intense usage can damage both synthetic and human hair wigs.
Hence, wear your lace front wig only on special occasions and not all day long.
If you need to wear your wig permanently, use more wigs over the days, and rotate with them to extend their duration.
Also, remove the wig when you go to sleep, don’t treat it like your true hair because the friction between the wig and pillow and the nocturnal movements can cause breakage and strand dispersion.
Brushing or combing the wig gently, as well. The mechanical traction of brush and comb is another cause of hair breakage that shortens the life of your wig.
To style the strands, use your hands. Part the hairline always by the hands. The human skin has powerful smoothing properties. Moreover, the heat of our skin strengthens the fiber of hair, increasing the duration of the human hair wig.
When you need to give a particular hairdo to your wig, don’t style by yourself unless you are very good at it. Ask your hairdresser to help, styling tools and hair dryers are detrimental to the texture of your wig. For this reason, it is better if an expert hairstylist uses them.
Here are some most commonly asked questions relating to the lifespan of lace front wigs.
How Long Can You Keep a Lace Front Wig On?
There aren’t strict rules about how long a frontal lace wig can be kept on. Many wig wearers talk about six months. But this news may be fake. If you want your wig to last for a long time, you had better keep the wig only for a few hours per day.
Furthermore, if kept from morning to night, the frontal lace may irritate the hairline of your forehead, especially if the wig does not have silky frontal lace.
How Often Should You Change Your Lace Front Wig?
The frequency of change of the wig is another crucial factor in helping you extend the duration of the unity.
Try wearing two or three different front lace wigs over the week. Don’t always wear the same wig because the intense usage makes it dull and discolored.
Rotate with three cheap front lace wigs, and change them once every two days. You can rotate with synthetic and human hair wigs with different colors and textures. This is an optimal solution to make your frontal lace wig last more.

I hope you have understood that to last for a long time, you must treat your frontal lace wig like your true hair. Does not matter if it is a quality or cheap wig, synthetic or high-quality human hair wig. You have only to follow what I said in this guide: no intense usage, yes to gentle and soft caring.
If you can, buy only virgin human hair lace wigs, they last forever! The best ones are the Brazilian human hair wigs with HD lace.
If you can’t, don’t keep your wig on permanently, don’t sleep with it, don’t wear it while you shower. And use more (affordable) wigs along the week.
