Quick Summary
4 Best Remy Hair Extension Brands Reviewed
In this section, I will go over my top picks for the best Remy hair extension brands, together with a detailed review for each option.
GooGoo Hair
GooGoo Hair understands its customers’ needs and fulfills on promises. Unlike a few other hair brands, they are not all things to all (wo)men. They do 3 types of hair extensions only – and they do them very well.
Possibly their most popular item is the clip-in extension range. They are well known for their sturdy clips and well-constructed wefts. Once installed, the clip-ins always feel secure and never budge until it’s time to take them out.
The range of colors that they come in is beautiful and very on-trend, encompassing balayage, ombré, single-color, and mixed single colors. One of the most popular color ranges is a gorgeous brown with an ombré into a honey gold color.
Perfect for those who have brown hair and want to add golden highlights without having to commit to long-term damage to their own hair.
The tape-in and halo ranges follow a similar offering of colors, but have different weightings in their packs. A good rule of thumb is if you want to add volume and length to your hair, you will need about 180 grams of hair. If you’re just adding volume and no length to your hair, then you can get away with anything over 80 grams.
This rule of thumb applies to most methods of extensions, from micro-loops to halos.
GooGoo has amazing customer service representatives who will literally bend over backward to get you what you need and will happily accommodate custom orders and colors at no extra charge.
The only word of warning I have about GooGoo is that when you get to the very long lengths, such as 24 inches, you will need to plan to cut about an inch off the hair to get it properly thick to the ends. Otherwise, this is a fantastic company to purchase from and definitely my go-to for both tape ins and clip-ins.
Sunny Hair
Sunny hair not only has great hair and great customer service, but they also have a wide and varied offering for you! You’re after clip-in hair? They’ve got the normal clips with the normal weighted wefts, AND they also have the seamless wefts that are double weighted.
Other temporary options include a halo extension with the option of clipping the sides and using just the fishing line. And then there’s the ponytail extension too.
Tape-in extensions more your thing? Sunny hair has a dedicated blonde series with so many blonde combinations, it makes this Blonde’s head spin! And yes, they also have a dark range for those auburn and raven-haired readers.
Prefer a sew-in method of gaining your foxy look? They have the usual double-drawn wefts, then they also have the EZ wefts which are attached by microbeads!
In the pre-bonded department, Sunny Hair has a lovely offering of micro loop, micro ring, and keratin fusion methods. And then there are the U part wigs, which have a good range of colors and lengths.
Guys, the variety is HUGE. The hair options are endless, and we haven’t even started on all the color ranges and options yet.
For newbies and people who aren’t sure of exactly what they are after yet, it could be a little overwhelming. Decision fatigue is a real thing, and even a seasoned vet like me took a look through all they offered and felt like I needed to go for a nap afterward!
Full Shine
Another hair brand with a firm belief that “more is more” is Full Shine. Even though I am nominating this company for their wide and varied color range, I must still also credit them with offering a wide range of extension methods and lengths.
BUT the colors! My head near popped off my neck when I saw the delicious range of colors and color treatments on offer.
From creamy blonde blends, through to fiery reds, from gorgeous caramel roots to blonde tips and the darkest raven blacks. There is something for everyone here.
Full Shine specializes in pure colors, highlighted colors, rooted colors, ombré colors, and balayage colors. Within that wide scope, they offer natural colors through to Party City neon bright colors.
Most of these colors come in a full range of methods which includes clip-ins, tape ins, sew-in wefts, ponytail extensions, U-tips, I-tips, half wigs, and halo/fish line extensions.
If there is one thing I would say with Full Shine is that their longer lengths do tend to be thinner. If you’re looking to add volume and length, then make sure you get at least 180 grams of hair to make sure you have the full Big-Hair sensation.
SUYYA
Suyya hair has focussed on and specialized in offering premium Remy hair extensions in a variety of gag-worthy colors in a tape in method. They offer tapes from lime green, to fire engine red and a delightful mix of natural colors in between.
They also offer lace front wigs in all the candy colors and clip-in extensions, however, tape ins are by far their most popular and reordered product. The hair is full to the end, soft, and can be used from 6 months to a year depending on care and the amount of processing it has had to undergo (those bright colors come at a cost!)
Suyya hair is a great example of keeping things simple and doing a few things well. The hair is great for the price and is soft, luscious, and long-lasting.
One downfall is that because they tend to use Brazilian hair, the extensions can sometimes become a little curly after washing. So if you have dead straight hair, these extensions may become a little problematic after washing.
However, if you have a bit of wave, as I do, they actually tend to blend better.
Guide to Buying Remy Hair Extensions
Here are a few things to take into consideration when looking at different brands of Remy Hair.
You Get What You Pay For
There are few reasons Remy hair is cheaper.
One of the biggest reasons, it is thinner than you would like, so only good for adding volume. Sometimes it is mixed with synthetic hair or even animal hair, so it won’t maintain its frictionless and silky quality for very long. And one of the other reasons is that it is collected from multiple donors and has had the cuticle completely removed, meaning that it will dry out quickly and matte in an instant.
High-quality human hair retains its natural shine even after a few washes and can withstand being tonged, teased, and heat-styled for up to 24 months. It is usually collected from one donor and goes through as little chemical processing as possible.
So, whereas it may be more expensive in the beginning, once you add up how many cheap sets you’ll have to buy over the course of 2 years, the figures soon prove that it is worth saving those pennies and getting a good set that you can keep for a longer time.
Remy Hair Test
Remy hair means that all the cuticles of the hair are all aligned. If you have a set of extensions, and they are starting to frizz way earlier than they should be, how do you know if you’ve been sold real Remy hair, or if you’ve been sold hair that’s had the cuticles removed?
Wet a few strands of the hair. Run your fingers DOWN the hair shaft. That should feel smooth, right?
Now if you run your fingers UP the hair shaft, there should be a little friction, as you are going against the cuticle. If there’s no friction? It’s not Remy and you have a good case to present to get a refund ASAP.
This is one piece of advice I wish I had known about a few years ago!
My Verdict
I personally prefer when a brand does one or two things and does them very well. For that reason, I have chosen GooGoo Hair as the best brand to pledge allegiance to.
With an army of followers in its wake and a delightful customer service experience, on top of great hair and a beautiful range of colors, you really cannot go wrong.
