Step By Step Guide on How To Fix a Wig
Here are the detailed steps to fix a wig with a fabric softener.
Step 1: Clear the basin, fill it up with cold water, add 1 cup of laundry detergent (to clean the wig), and 1 cup of fabric softener. Avoid using hot water to clean or wash your wig because it will weaken the wig fibers.
Step 2: Brush your wig to detangle it and to remove all the dust or dirt.
Pro Tips: Only brush your wig when it’s still dry, bruising a wet wig will damage it.
Step 3: Soak the wig thoroughly in the mixture for at least one hour. For an extremely stiff wig, leave it overnight.
Step 4: Rinse your wig thoroughly with cold water. Ensure there are no detergent or drift particles remaining on the wig. You can also use your fingers to gently straighten the wig.
Step 5: Take your wig out of the mixture and remove water or moisture portions from your wet wig. Carefully wrap your wig using a soft cotton towel or cloth.
Step 6: Hang your wig on a wig stand and allow it to dry naturally and completely overnight. You can as well use a blowdryer. Just make sure you are using the cold mode. This will help avoid damaging the wig.
Step 7: Brush or comb your wig and style it. Only use heat tools for heat-resistant wigs and always start with low heat mode first.
Pro Tips: Avoid twisting or rubbing your wig while brushing or styling it. However, you can twist or rub it if it has a specific shape. Twisting it in the opposite direction will make your wig weaker within a short time.
